Two Flomaton, Alabama, parents are being held in Escambia County, Alabama, on a combined four filed charges after authorities said a 15-year-old was hospitalized in critical condition and investigators later upgraded the case to attempted murder.
Eric Douglas McClure, 41, and Cynthia Danielle Tedder, 36, are each jailed at the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton on one count of attempt to commit murder and one count of torture/willful abuse of a child under 18 by a responsible person, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office inmate roster. Jail records list both defendants with $0 bond. The Flomaton Police Department has said the investigation remains active.
Hospital notification launched the investigation on Sept. 1
The case began during the early morning hours of Sept. 1, 2026, when the Flomaton Police Department was notified by Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, that a 15-year-old from Flomaton was in critical condition, according to reporting by NorthEscambia citing police. NorthEscambia reported police were notified at about 5:13 a.m. and that investigators began examining what happened at the family’s residence on Titi Street in Flomaton.
Authorities have not publicly identified the child, and NewsLeash is not naming the juvenile victim. Police also have not publicly described the child’s injuries or alleged the precise mechanism by which the teen was hurt.
Search warrant executed at Flomaton home
According to NorthEscambia’s account of statements from Flomaton police, investigators obtained a search warrant and served it later on Sept. 1 at the home where the teenager lived on Titi Street. The same report said information developed in the investigation first led to child-abuse-related charges before attempted-murder counts were added the next day.
As of publication, no publicly available court filing reviewed by NewsLeash details the probable-cause narrative behind the accusations. The publicly viewable jail records identify the charge statutes but do not provide factual allegations beyond the offense labels.
Charges were upgraded to attempted murder
NorthEscambia reported that Flomaton police, working with the Escambia County District Attorney’s Office in Alabama, later obtained attempted-murder charges after what police described as new evidence developed during the investigation. Jail records for both McClure and Tedder now show the same two counts: Alabama Code 13A-4-2, labeled on the roster as “Attempt to Commit Murder/Other Crime,” and Alabama Code 26-15-3, labeled as “Torture/Willful Abuse of Child.”
In plain terms, an attempted-murder charge alleges that a person intentionally took a substantial step toward unlawfully causing another person’s death, without requiring that a death actually occurred. The child-abuse statute listed by jail officials alleges torture, willful abuse, cruel beating, or other willful maltreatment of a person younger than 18 by a responsible person. Those are allegations only, and the prosecution will have to prove them in court.
Arrested in Florida and returned to Alabama
NorthEscambia reported that McClure and Tedder were initially arrested in Pensacola by Florida authorities as fugitives from justice and were later extradited to Alabama. Escambia County, Alabama, jail records show Tedder was booked into the Brewton jail on Sept. 3, 2026, at 1:44 p.m., and McClure was booked the same day at 2 p.m.
The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office inmate pages list both defendants as current inmates in Brewton and show no bond amount set other than $0.00. The sheriff’s office notes on its roster pages that charges and bail information may change after court appearances.
Authorities have released few details
Despite the severity of the charges, authorities have publicly disclosed little about the underlying allegations. Police have not said how long the alleged abuse may have occurred, what evidence was recovered during the home search, whether any other children were present, or whether additional charges are expected.
