A Dothan man is being held without bond in Houston County after police said a Discord-based investigation led to 15 felony child sexual abuse material charges against him.
Phillip Tyler Stanley, 37, of Dothan, was arrested Sept. 4, 2026, at his residence on Whatley Drive and booked into the Houston County Jail, according to the Dothan Police Department. Police said Stanley was charged with 12 counts of Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material and three counts of Dissemination of Child Sexual Abuse Material. Dothan police said the case remains under investigation and that additional charges are possible.
Investigation began with NCMEC tip tied to Discord, police say
According to a Sept. 4 news release from the Dothan Police Department, investigators received a tip on June 15, 2026, through the department’s participation in the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Police said the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted authorities that images depicting child sexual abuse material had been shared on Discord, a social-chat platform.
Police said investigators obtained identifying information for the computer allegedly involved in sharing the images and then sought search warrants for multiple online platforms and applications. According to police, those records identified Stanley as the person tied to the account under investigation.
Police allege repeated Discord chats and image sharing
Dothan police said their investigation indicated Stanley used Discord chats on several occasions to discuss child sexual abuse material with other users. In the department’s account of the investigation, officers alleged Stanley sent images depicting children who appeared to be between 10 and 15 years old to other users in separate chats.
Police also said chat evidence showed Stanley told other users he was interested in females younger than 10. That statement is an allegation attributed to investigators, not a filed criminal charge by itself.
Arrest at Whatley Drive home followed digital-warrant review
Police said Stanley was arrested at his Whatley Drive residence after investigators reviewed returns from the online search warrants. The department also said a search connected to the Discord username indicated child sexual abuse material was allegedly shared and possessed at multiple locations, including hotels, places of employment and the residence associated with Stanley.
No child victims were publicly identified by police, and the department did not say in its release whether investigators had identified any locally known children depicted in the files referenced in the charges.
What the filed charges mean
The 12 possession counts accuse Stanley of knowingly having illegal visual material depicting the sexual abuse of a minor, while the three dissemination counts accuse him of allegedly sending, distributing or sharing that material with others. The charges are accusations filed by law enforcement and prosecutors must still prove them in court.
As of the department’s Sept. 4 release, Stanley was being held without bond in the Houston County Jail. Police said the investigation remains active as officers examine electronic devices and other digital evidence seized during the execution of the search warrant and pursue leads involving additional online accounts and application platforms.
Local report matched police account
A report published the same day by WTVY stated that Dothan police traced the case to Discord chat logs and online-account records obtained through warrants, and likewise reported that Stanley remained jailed without bond on the 15 charges announced by police.
Stanley is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
