DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — A Delray Beach-area man is facing a first-degree premeditated murder charge after authorities say he contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and reported that he had killed his 77-year-old mother inside the home they shared.

Alexander Harrington was taken into custody Friday, Sept. 11, following the discovery of his mother dead inside a residence in the 5100 block of Monterey Lane in unincorporated Palm Beach County west of Delray Beach.
According to accounts of information released by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the residence shortly after 2 p.m. after Harrington himself contacted law enforcement and allegedly told authorities that he had killed his mother.
Deputies entered the home and found the 77-year-old woman dead inside. Authorities said she appeared to have suffered stab wounds.
Harrington was at the scene when law enforcement arrived and was taken into custody without incident, according to local reports.
The circumstances surrounding what allegedly happened inside the residence before Harrington contacted authorities remain unclear. Investigators have not publicly disclosed a suspected motive or explained what they believe led to the killing.

That record is significant because it clarifies that authorities are not merely investigating the death as an unspecified homicide: Harrington was booked on an allegation of premeditated first-degree murder.

Local reporting has identified Harrington as 50 years old. Victim was Harrington’s 77-year-old mother

Harrington allegedly reported the killing himself

Rather than receiving a call from a neighbor, witness or family member who discovered the victim, authorities say Harrington contacted PBSO himself and reported that he had killed his mother.
