A 16-year-old boy has been charged with multiple offenses after two police officers were injured when a vehicle he was allegedly driving collided with a marked police car during a pursuit in Grimsby, Lincolnshire.
The incident began after officers were alerted to a car stolen near Byron Grove in the Nunsthorpe area. Police pursued the vehicle, and the chase ended when it collided with a marked police car; both vehicles came to a stop at the scene. Two officers were taken to hospital for treatment; the extent of their injuries hasn’t been released.
The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, taking a motor vehicle without consent, driving without the owner’s consent, making off without payment, possession of a class B drug, possession of a class C drug, two counts of driving without a licence, and two counts of driving without insurance.
He has been remanded into secure accommodation pending a future court date. Dangerous driving generally refers to driving far below the standard expected of a careful, competent driver in a way that creates a risk of harm; aggravated vehicle taking is a more serious offense than simple unauthorized use, typically applied when the vehicle is driven dangerously, damaged, or involved in a collision. Legal restrictions protecting young defendants limit what identifying details can be disclosed.
He has been charged but not convicted, and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
