Two police officers were injured after a vehicle believed to have been stolen collided with a marked police car during a chase in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, on Wednesday. A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has since been charged with multiple offences in connection with the incident.
The case stems from a report of a car being stolen on Byron Grove, a residential street in the Nunsthorpe area of Grimsby. Police said officers were called to the scene at around 1pm, and a pursuit followed. During the chase, the vehicle allegedly collided with a marked police car. Both vehicles came to a stop at the scene.
Two officers were taken to hospital for treatment following the crash. Further details on the extent of their injuries have not been released.
The 16-year-old has been charged with dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, taking a motor vehicle, driving a vehicle without the owner’s consent, making off without payment, possession of a class B drug, possession of a class C drug, two counts of driving without a licence, and two counts of driving without insurance.
He has been remanded into secure accommodation and is due to appear in court at a later date. As he has been charged but not convicted, he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
