A Cornelius man is facing six filed charges in Washington County after investigators said a juvenile reported an assault that led deputies to a concealed room inside a business complex where authorities now fear there may be additional unidentified victims.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said 42-year-old Daniel Le Brun, of Cornelius, was booked into the Washington County Jail on Sept. 1, 2026, after being discharged from a hospital. The sheriff’s office initially announced four charges at booking: attempted murder in the first degree, assault in the first degree, sex abuse in the first degree, and unlawful use of a weapon. By Le Brun’s first court appearance on Sept. 2, KPTV reported he was facing two additional counts: kidnapping in the first degree and unlawful sexual penetration in the first degree.
Authorities have not alleged in the public materials reviewed that every charge relates to a separate victim, and court records reviewed indirectly through local reporting were not fully available for direct inspection at no cost. The sheriff’s office has publicly identified one juvenile complainant and said detectives are investigating whether others may have been harmed.
Juvenile ran to Cornelius police station, authorities say
According to the sheriff’s office, the case began on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., when a juvenile ran to the Cornelius Police Department and reported an assault that had occurred near the 1600 block of North Adair Street in Cornelius.
Using information provided by the juvenile, Cornelius police and Washington County sheriff’s deputies located Le Brun barricaded inside a business at the Plaza Grande business complex. The sheriff’s office said he was armed with several less-lethal-style guns and knives and refused to surrender.
Deputies then called in the Tactical Negotiations Team, Crisis Negotiations Unit and other crisis-response personnel. The sheriff’s office said deputies used a drone to monitor Le Brun’s movements inside the business complex while negotiators attempted to communicate with him.
Standoff ended with arrest and hospitalization
The sheriff’s office said tactical team members took Le Brun into custody at about 1 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28. Deputies then took him to an area hospital after authorities said he had ingested a potentially lethal amount of medication.
Le Brun remained hospitalized until Sept. 1, when he was discharged and booked into jail, according to the sheriff’s office. KPTV reported that he made his first appearance in Washington County court on Wednesday, Sept. 2.
Detectives say concealed room was found inside business complex
In the most significant investigative development announced publicly so far, the sheriff’s office said that further investigation of the crime scene led to the discovery of a concealed room inside the business complex where the crimes occurred.
Authorities have not, in the public releases reviewed for this report, described exactly how the room was concealed, how long it had existed, or what evidence investigators recovered from it. They also have not publicly identified the juvenile complainant, and NewsLeash is not doing so.
The sheriff’s office said detectives believe Le Brun had access to children through his affiliation with a memorabilia business. KPTV identified the business location as Blue Sapphire Jewelry LLC at the Plaza Grande complex. Public reporting has described it as a memorabilia business, but authorities’ public statement focused on Le Brun’s access to children through that affiliation rather than offering a full explanation of the business setup.
Authorities asking parents and possible witnesses to come forward
Detectives said they are concerned that additional victims have not yet been identified. Investigators want to speak with anyone who witnessed the reported assault or who has information about Le Brun.
The sheriff’s office also urged parents to speak with their children about any contact they may have had with him, whether at the store or elsewhere. Authorities asked anyone with relevant information to contact Washington County detectives at 503-846-2500 and reference case number 50-26-12158.
The sheriff’s office said it released Le Brun’s booking photo under Oregon House Bill 3273, which allows law enforcement in certain circumstances to release a booking photo to help identify additional criminal activity.
