Washington County authorities say a Cornelius man is facing four filed charges after a juvenile reported being assaulted and detectives later found a concealed room inside a memorabilia business where investigators say the crimes occurred.
Daniel Le Brun, 42, of Cornelius, was booked into the Washington County Jail on Sept. 1, 2026, on one count each of attempted murder in the first degree, assault in the first degree, sexual abuse in the first degree, and unlawful use of a weapon, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities said detectives are now trying to determine whether there are additional unidentified victims tied to Le Brun’s reported access to children through the business.
Juvenile reported assault to Cornelius police, authorities say
According to the sheriff’s office, the investigation began at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2026, when a juvenile ran to the Cornelius Police Department and reported an assault that had occurred near the 1600 block of North Adair Street in Cornelius.
KXL, citing sheriff’s office spokesperson David Huey, reported the juvenile had visible injuries and that investigators believe both a physical assault and a sexual assault occurred. News organizations describing the victim as a teen attributed that detail to police reporting, but the sheriff’s office public release identified the victim only as a juvenile, and NewsLeash is using that narrower verified description.
Deputies say Le Brun barricaded himself inside business at Plaza Grande complex
With information provided by the juvenile, Cornelius police and Washington County sheriff’s deputies located Le Brun inside a business at the Plaza Grande business complex. The sheriff’s office said he barricaded himself inside, was armed with several less-lethal-style guns and knives, and refused to surrender.
Deputies called in the Tactical Negotiations Team, Crisis Negotiations Unit and other specialty responders. Authorities said deputies used a drone to monitor his movements while negotiators attempted to communicate with him. At about 1 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, tactical team members took Le Brun into custody.
The sheriff’s office said deputies then took Le Brun to an area hospital after he ingested what authorities described as a potentially lethal amount of medication. He was discharged on Sept. 1 and then booked into jail.
Detectives say concealed room inside business was crime scene
The sheriff’s office said further investigation led detectives to a concealed room inside the business complex where the crimes allegedly occurred. KXL reported, citing Huey, that the room was part of the building’s original construction, was not open to the public, and would have required someone to know it existed in order to access it.
Investigators have publicly said the business was affiliated with memorabilia and collectibles that attracted children and teenagers. KXL identified the location as Crossroads Gaming, a memorabilia business in Cornelius. Some early reports also described Blue Sapphire Jewelry LLC as the business location, while later television reporting said authorities had retracted an initial characterization of Le Brun as a store owner and that his exact connection to the business remained under investigation. Because publicly available accounts have differed on that point, NewsLeash is reporting only that authorities say Le Brun had an affiliation with a memorabilia business in the Plaza Grande complex and access to children through that affiliation.
What the filed charges mean
The four charges announced by the sheriff’s office are allegations, not findings of guilt.
In plain terms, attempted murder in the first degree accuses a defendant of intentionally trying to cause another person’s death but not completing the killing. Assault in the first degree generally alleges a serious physical injury or the use of dangerous force under circumstances defined by Oregon law. Sexual abuse in the first degree alleges unlawful sexual contact under aggravating circumstances specified by statute. Unlawful use of a weapon alleges using or attempting to use a weapon in a manner prohibited by law.
One Portland television outlet reported at a first court appearance that Le Brun faced additional charges including first-degree kidnapping and first-degree unlawful sexual penetration. However, the sheriff’s office release — the primary official source publicly available at this stage — listed only four jail-booking charges. Because NewsLeash could not independently confirm any expanded formal charging document from a direct court or prosecutor source, this report reflects only the four charges verified by the sheriff’s office.
Detectives seek information about possible additional victims
Investigators said they are concerned additional victims may not yet have been identified. The sheriff’s office urged parents to speak with their children about any contact they may have had with Le Brun, whether at the store or elsewhere, and asked anyone who witnessed the reported assault or has information about Le Brun to contact detectives and reference case number 50-26-12158.
The sheriff’s office also said it released Le Brun’s booking photo under Oregon House Bill 3273 to help identify any additional possible criminal activity.
Le Brun is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
